The application of orthostatic test with assessment of skin perfusion changes by laser Doopler flowmetry does not contribute to differentiation of primary from secondary Raynaud’s phenomenon in individual patients but it helps for group analysis of microcirculatory and vasomotor manifestations of orthostatic intolerance in separate forms.
Skin perfusion monitoring reflects variations of microcirculatory and sympathetic responses to orthostatism. The application of orthostatic test with assessment of skin perfusion changes by laser Doopler flowmetry does not contribute to differentiation of primary from secondary Raynaud’s phenomenon in individual patients but it helps for group analysis of microcirculatory and vasomotor manifestations of orthostatic intolerance in separate forms. Laser Doppler flowmetry is a valuable method for investigation of skin microcirculatory dysfunctions.

Abnormal heart rate variability with low power spectral density in the LF and HF components and reduction of the LF/HF ratio were obtained, pointing to reduced parasympathetic control in patients with scleroderma and Raynaud’s phenomenon.
Increased sympathetic and decreased parasympathetic modulation at rest in all patients with Raynaud's phenomenon was established. Abnormal heart rate variability with low power spectral density in the LF and HF components and reduction of the LF/HF ratio were obtained, pointing to reduced parasympathetic control in patients with scleroderma and Raynaud’s phenomenon. The measurements of cardiac vagal and adrenergic autonomic responses by deep breathing established reduced heart rate variability in the patients with hand-arm vibration syndrome and scleroderma, while the LF power is higher in the patients with hand-arm vibration syndrome than in the control subjects. The cardiac autonomic responses to orthostatism showed an increased sympathetic reactivity in the patients with hand-arm vibration syndrome and reduced reactivity in the patients with scleroderma. Hyperreactivity during orthostatism and cold test were established in the primary Raynaud’s phenomenon patients, confirming the increased activity of sympathetic nervous system.
